Big Apple
Twice a year the seven parishes parishes of the Marcle Ridge in Herefordshire celebrate their heritage of apples and pears, cider and perry. You can “read all about it” on the Big Apple website.
Big Apple Oct 2009
In Autumn the harvest is celebrated whilst pressing the fruit for the next year’s vintage is under way. In 2009 The Big Apple will be celebrating this over the weekend of October 10th and 11th. Go to the Autumn Event pages at the Big Apple website for full details of the 2009 programme.
Over the weekend you can view the cider mills at Westons, Gregg’s Pit and Lyne Down. You can enjoy talks, a walk, a cycle ride, and guided walks at Awnells Farm. When you’re hungry there will be apple teas in the Memorial Hall and several local pubs will be providing apple themed dishes alongside their regular menus. Leominster Morris men will entertain in a variety of venues and there will be a concert at Hellens on Saturday night. You can see apples on display in the Great Barn at Hellens and there will tastings at the Royal Oak. The bold can climb the spiral staircase in the church belltower to the ringing chamber.
In short – there will be something for everything
The Guardian nominated Big Apple in its Five best … autumn food festivals for 2008.
Big Apple, Oct 2008
Sat 11 and Sun 12 October 2008 saw Much Marcle’s annual celebration of all things apple. The sun shone (yes, really) and the village was full of people moving between events.
